Colleagues are invited to submit their proposals on the theme of ‘Science, Fiction, Faith and the Future(s)’, for a workshop to be held at the Science Museum (London), in collaboration with the British Society for the History of Science and ‘Equipping Christian Leadership in an Age of Science’ (St. John’s College, University of Durham).

We are interested in work that explores the capacity of science fiction to examine different relationships between science, faith and spirituality, and how these might help us conceive of alternative, and perhaps more hopeful, human futures. Papers may focus on past or present, and may come from various disciplinary perspectives including history, theology, literary studies and science communication. In this workshop, we want to consider how science fiction can help re-set public discourses around religion, science, theology and technology, and open out new possibilities for the understanding of the operation of these concepts and practices in public culture. In particular, we are interested in work that can help provide resources through which faith leaders can engage with science and public affairs.

We welcome proposals for both standard (20 min) talks and shorter (10 min) interventions from both individuals and groups. These should be submitted to Amanda Rees via amanda.rees@york.ac.uk. The deadline for submission is FRIDAY APRIL 28, 2023. If you have any questions, please email Amanda.
