Duties and Responsibilities
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with Dr Brian Balmer on the project ` Understanding Biological Disarmament: The Historical Context of the Origins of the Biological Weapons Convention’, funded by a grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Council. We are particularly interested in appointing a scholar with research expertise in Cold War History. The successful candidate will engage in original archival and interview research on the history of the Biological Weapons Convention and publish the results of their work (as single and co-author with team members) as academic and policy-orientated outputs. The duties of the post will also include participation in dissemination events and activities.
Science and Technology Studies at UCL is an inter-disciplinary department which is active in teaching and research in the history, philosophy and social studies of science together with science communication and science policy. The post is available from 1st September 2013 and is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council for 29 months in the first instance.
Key Requirements
Applicants must hold or expect to hold by the time of appointment a PhD in any broadly relevant area of Cold War History, and be able to demonstrate their ability to conduct high quality research. Applicants must have experience of carrying out archival research and demonstrate a commitment to disseminating research outputs to both specialist and non-specialist audiences, both in writing and by delivering papers at conferences and events.
