Explore the microbial world, antibiotics and technology through art. The internationally renowned artist Anna Dumitriu takes visitors on an artistic journey through infection, from the Romantic period to contemporary synthetic biology.

Science and Sacrifice
Basement Gallery

Drawing on our recent Dear Harry special exhibition we present a key story of science and war in 20th-century Oxford. This permanent display shows the life and work of physicist Henry Moseley, who died in 1915 at Gallipoli, aged just 27. Soon to be accompanied by another new display, which focuses on Oxford’s penicillin research of the 1940s.

A New Museum is Born
Entrance Gallery

The Museum’s building has a long and varied history. Discover its original incarnation as the home of the Ashmolean Museum in 1683, with the surprising collections and activities it housed. Then see its transformation over time to the founding of the modern Museum in 1924.

Explore the Museum’s collections through hands-on activities and talks to discover how we have charted our world and the universe. For Oxford’s Christmas Light Festival.

Guided Tour: The Artist’s Tour

Visit BioArt and Bacteria with the artist Anna Dumitriu and see the creative process behind the exhibition.
No need to book.

Family Friendly: Stars and Planets
Saturday 9 December, 2-4pm

Follow your stars and make an amazing star dial or paper plate planetarium.

Evening Talk: BioArt: Altered Realities
Thursday 14 December, 6pm

William Myers (author of Bio Art: Altered Realities) explains how BioArt responds to our changing definitions of life, nature, and identity.
