Botanical Boudicas and Scientific Soldiers: Struggles past and Present

At the end of World War One, women won the battle for the vote, but they lost the fight for equality. For four years, female scientists and doctors had proved they could succeed in careers traditionally reserved for men – and a professor of botany headed the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC)  in France. But after the Armistice, conventional hierarchies were rapidly re-established. One hundred years later, they still have not been completely overturned.
