In January 2013 The Natural History Museum, London launched Wallace Letters Online. This is a free online catalogue of all known surviving letters to and from Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913). Over 150 repositories are represented in the catalogue from around the world and we currently have over 4,700 letters both to and from Wallace. Wallace Letters Online is the result of a three year project, the Wallace Correspondence Project based at the museum, which will hopefully continue subject to funding.

We’re finding that the online catalogue is not as well known about yet in the history of science community as we’d like, which is a shame as it’s a great new resource which taps into the ninete: enth century scientific community. Wallace corresponded with all the big scientific men of the era and hopefully the catalogue will provide new avenues of research to scholars and amateurs alike.

Please pass on this announcement to anybody who might be interested.
